To be eligible for a Veteran's Exemption of $4,000, a veteran (or the unmarried spouse of a veteran), must be a resident of California as of the lien date. Also, a single veteran must not have assets valued over $5,000. A married veteran must not have assets valued over $10,000. You may receive only one exemption per property.
